This is one of the craziest looking things I’ve ever encountered, and just a little bit creepy too. My wife and I were perusing a local discount store, and, nestled amongst garden gnomes, water fountains, and fake concrete angels was this ceramic, bobble-headed, bear with bugged-out blue eyes. We laughed so hard I had to snap it.
Just goes to show that you never know what you’ll find at flea markets, consignment, and discount stores.

Beck photos part of Gold and Silver Addy awards
I’m really excited to let everyone know that MadGENIUS has won Gold and Silver Addy Awards in Jackson, MS with print ads that I photographed. Last year Senior Art Director Chris Nolen, food stylist Mary Goodson and I went down to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for a day of shooting some extraordinary BBQ for The Shed Barbeque & Blues Joint. What was interesting (and challenging) about this shoot was that the food, while looking tasty, couldn’t be shot to look elegant in any way, shape, or form. Everything was a one light setup, and since The Shed serves its food in black to-go containers, we decided to just lay out the food on white butcher paper instead of plates in order to keep the rustic, backyard vibe. The crew are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, and we had a blast working with them. Not incidentally, the food is some of the best, if not THE BEST, BBQ I’ve ever had. It’s no wonder that they do so well in competitions! Any chance you get, go get fed at Shed!
The ribs ad won a Gold Addy, and the other two ads won Silver. Again, congratulations to MadGENIUS, and thanks for a great shoot!

I photographed Dexter McCluster in August of last year for Cellular South’s “Don’t Text And Drive” Campaign. Dexter was a blast to work with; very conscientious and willing to do anything to get the job done right.
